| Serving at Crossroads Soup Kitchen in Detroit |
We Served Lunch to 869 people on April 26, 2009!
On April 25 and April 26, 2009 we served lunch at the soup kitchen in Detroit. Afterwards we received this letter from The Rev. Canon Saundra D. Richardson of Crossroads Soup Kitchen: Kathy, Joan, Mike & St. George's Team,
THANK YOU! What a wonderful day!
On behalf of Crossroads and the many served on today 4/26/09, we thank St. George's for a delicious meal (869 meals served) and making a difference in the lives of many people. You helped to make a difference in the quality of life in Southeast Michigan. We were grateful for 22 volunteers and 115 volunteer hours on site plus additional volunteers and volunteer hours in chopping vegetables, purchasing and planning to prepare for the day. We and the people served today are most grateful. As of today, for Jan-Apr 2009, we have served 11,635 meals for a weekly average of 684.41, quite a bit more than this time last year. We look forward to your return. You can come on your own to volunteer or to be a Soup Kitchen Manager.
We thank all who prepared the meal, served, provided the resources and upheld us in prayer. Thank you for everything.
Continue to keep Crossroads in your prayers. Together, we continue to make a difference in Southeast Michigan.

In October we Fed 500 People at Crossroads!
Running like a well oiled machine, the “Soup Kitchen Crew” from St. George’s fed about 500 hungry people on Sunday, October 5, 2008.
THANKS to everyone who did the ordering and the shopping beforehand…and those who loaded their vans and cars with groceries and supplies…and those who prepped the vegetables and took all the rind off those bologna slices!
THANKS to everyone who came down on Sunday to fix and serve the meals ~ our stalwart crew and the friends and families they brought along with them.
THANKS to everyone who came to Crossroads for the first time … you did a fabulous job and we hope you’re inspired to come with us again.
THANKS to everyone who continues to support this ministry financially … we couldn’t do it without you.
We return to the Crossroads Soup Kitchen on April 26, 2009 …We’d love to have you join us!

by Kathy Pegan On Sunday, May 18, 2008, the St. George’s crew fed more people at the new Crossroads Soup Kitchen than had been fed there on any Sunday this year!! Heartfelt appreciation to the ECW and the Vestry for their continued support. “Blessings” to those who quietly pick up a tab here and there, and to those who literally pick up the groceries, fruit, and bread (you know who you are and we love you!) Tears of onions – make that ‘gratitude’ for our “Saturday Crew” who made short work of getting everything ready to go down on Sunday. Kudos to you of St. George’s – your families and friends - who made the journey to Detroit … from the “water servers” to the “sandwich assembly lines”, the “soup crew” and the folks who packed or served lunches, cleaned tables and stacked chairs. As someone’s TV ad says “No job’s too big; No job’s too small.” You handled the day with kindness and joy. Your reward was the little boy who gave a hug for the extra cookies, the woman who said “Bless you”, the man who told you how much this meal meant to him … and the warm feeling you carried in your heart as you went to bed that night knowing you helped a lot of people.
If you’ve never worked at the Soup Kitchen, you don’t know what you’re missing!!!
